那时亚兰王哈薛上来，攻打迦特，把它夺取了。他又决心上来攻打耶路撒冷。犹大王约阿施于是拿出所有的圣物，就是他的祖先犹大王约沙法、约兰和亚哈谢所献的圣物，以及他自己所献的圣物，还有耶和华殿和王宫宝库里所有的金子，送给亚兰王哈薛，哈薛就离开耶路撒冷去了。

亚哈斯又砍掉盆座的边缘，把洗濯盆拿下来，又把铜海从驮着铜海的铜牛上取下来，放在铺了石的地上。又因亚述王的缘故，他把耶和华殿里为安息日而建造的廊子，和王从外边进殿的廊子，从耶和华的殿内拆除。

希西家就把耶和华殿和王宫宝库内找到的所有金子都给了他。那时，犹大王希西家把耶和华殿门上和自己包在门柱上的金子，都刮了下来，给了亚述王。

亚述王提革拉．毗尼色来到他那里，不但没有援助他，反倒欺压他。亚哈斯取了耶和华殿里和王宫中，以及众领袖家里的财宝，给了亚述王，但也无济于事。

于是亚撒从耶和华的殿和王宫的库房里取出金银来，送给住在大马士革的亚兰王便．哈达，说：

因此，主必使大河又强又大的水临到他们，就是亚述王和他一切威荣，水必涨起来，高过所有的水道；水要泛滥，漫过所有的河岸；然后必冲入犹大，涨溢泛滥，直到颈项，以马内利啊！它展开的翅膀必遮遍你广阔的地土。”

他挖掘坑穴，挖得深深的，自己却掉进所挖的陷阱里。他的恶毒必回到自己的头上，他的强暴必落在自己的头顶上。

“耶和华必使灾难的日子临到你和你的人民，以及你的父家，自从以法莲脱离犹大以来，未曾有过这样的日子，就是亚述王的入侵。”
