大卫在旷野听说拿八正在剪羊毛，

他又在旷野建造了一些瞭望楼，挖了许多贮水池，因为他在高原和平原上有很多牲畜；又因为他喜爱种植，所以在山地上和果园里，雇有农夫和修剪葡萄树的工人。

亚比该到了拿八那里，他正在家中摆设筵席，好像帝王的筵席一样。拿八心里畅快，喝得烂醉如泥，所以无论大事小事亚比该都没有告诉他，直到第二天早晨。

他宰杀了许多公牛、肥畜和羊，邀请了王所有的儿子、亚比亚他祭司和军队的元帅约押，却没有邀请王的仆人所罗门。

摩押王米沙是个以牧羊为生的人。他每年进贡十万头绵羊羔和十万头公羊羔给以色列王。

在玛云有一个人，他的产业在迦密。他是一个很富有的人，有绵羊三千只，山羊一千只，那时他正在迦密剪羊毛。

有一天，亚多尼雅在隐．罗结旁边，琐希列的磐石那里，宰杀牛羊和肥畜，邀请他所有的兄弟，就是王的众子和所有作王的臣仆的犹大人，来参加筵席。

今天他下去宰杀了许多公牛、肥畜和羊，又请了王所有的儿子、众军长和亚比亚他祭司。他们正在亚多尼雅面前又吃又喝，说：‘亚多尼雅王万岁。’

现在我听说有人为你剪羊毛。你的牧人与我们在一起的时候，我们都没有侮辱他们；他们在迦密的日子，也从没有遗失过什么。
