大衛因基士的兒子掃羅的緣故就在洗革拉抑制自己、不敢自由往來，那時候有以下這些人來到他那裏；這些人也是在勇士之列、幫助戰事的。他們善於拉弓，能用左手右手甩石射箭；都是便雅憫人掃羅的族弟兄。為首的是亞希以謝；其次是約阿施，都是基比亞人示瑪的兒子；還有亞斯瑪威的兒子耶薛和毘力；又有比拉迦和亞拿突人耶戶，基遍人以實買雅，是個勇士、在三十人中，並且管理那三十人；又有耶利米，雅哈悉，約哈難，和基得拉人約撒拔，伊利烏賽，耶利摩，比亞利雅，示瑪利雅，哈律弗人示法提雅，以利加拿、耶西亞、亞薩列、約以謝、雅朔班這些可拉人、基多人耶羅罕的兒子猶拉和西巴第雅。

第三天大衛和跟隨的人到了洗革拉，亞瑪力人早已侵犯了南地和洗革拉了。他們擊破了洗革拉，又放火燒城；

凡受窘迫的、凡欠債的、凡心裏有苦恨的人、都集合到大衛那裏；大衛就做他們的頭目；跟從他的約有四百人。

以色列人將猶大山地的基列亞巴、和它四圍的牧場給了他們：亞巴是亞衲人的祖；基列亞巴就是希伯崙；至於這城的田地、和屬這城的村莊、他們是給了耶孚尼的兒子迦勒為產業的。

於是大衛和跟隨他的六百人就走，來到比梭谿谷；有餘留的便停在那裏。大衛和四百人往前追趕；有二百人因為精疲力竭、不能過比梭谿谷，便停住了。
