王从御花园回到席上，见哈曼伏在以斯帖所靠的榻上，便说：“他竟敢在宫中当着我的面侮辱王后吗？”王这话一出口，便有人蒙了哈曼的脸。服侍王的太监哈波拿说：“哈曼为那救驾有功的末底改做了一个二十三米高的木架，如今正立在哈曼家里。”王说：“把哈曼吊在上面！”于是，哈曼被吊在他为末底改预备的木架上，王的怒气这才平息。
