As no one has power over the wind to contain it, so no one has power over the time of their death. As no one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.

No one can stop the wind from blowing. And no one has the power to decide when they will die. No one is let out of the army in times of war. And evil won’t let go of those who practice it.

No man has power to retain the spirit, or power over the day of death. There is no discharge from war, nor will wickedness deliver those who are given to it.

None of us can hold back our spirit from departing. None of us has the power to prevent the day of our death. There is no escaping that obligation, that dark battle. And in the face of death, wickedness will certainly not rescue the wicked.

No one has authority over the wind to restrain it, and there is no authority over the day of death; no one is discharged during battle, and wickedness will not allow those who practice it to escape.

And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,

The wicked is banished in his wickedness, But the righteous has a refuge in his death.

What man can live and not see death? Can he deliver his life from the power of the grave? Selah

For though He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.

The wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the nations that forget God.

Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches,None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him—For the redemption of their souls is costly, And it shall cease forever—That he should continue to live eternally, And not see the Pit.

Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction.Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.As a dream when one awakes, So, Lord, when You awake, You shall despise their image.Thus my heart was grieved, And I was vexed in my mind.I was so foolish and ignorant; I was like a beast before You.Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand.You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me to glory.Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.For indeed, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all those who desert You for harlotry.But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works.

It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.

Your covenant with death will be annulled, And your agreement with Sheol will not stand; When the overflowing scourge passes through, Then you will be trampled down by it.

If He should set His heart on it, If He should gather to Himself His Spirit and His breath,

For we will surely die and become like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises means, so that His banished ones are not expelled from Him.

God shall likewise destroy you forever; He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your dwelling place, And uproot you from the land of the living. SelahThe righteous also shall see and fear, And shall laugh at him, saying,“ Here is the man who did not make God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness.”

And they went after them to the Jordan; and indeed all the road was full of garments and weapons which the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. So the messengers returned and told the king.

Who knows the spirit of the sons of men, which goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, which goes down to the earth?

“ When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people.And he shall say to them,‘ Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them;for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’“ Then the officers shall speak to the people, saying:‘ What man is there who has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man dedicate it.Also what man is there who has planted a vineyard and has not eaten of it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man eat of it.And what man is there who is betrothed to a woman and has not married her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man marry her.’“ The officers shall speak further to the people, and say,‘ What man is there who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest the heart of his brethren faint like his heart.’
