“ Son of man, say to the land,‘ You are a land that has not been cleansed or rained on in the day of wrath.’

“ Son of man, give the people of Israel this message: In the day of my indignation, you will be like a polluted land, a land without rain.

“ Son of man, say to her,‘ You are a land that is not clean or rained on in the day of indignation.’

Son of man, say unto her, Thou art a land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation.

“ Son of man, say to her: You are a land that has not been cleansed, that has not received rain in the day of indignation.

“ Son of man, say to her:‘ You are a land that receives no rain or showers in the day of my anger.’

“ Son of man, tell her,‘ You are a land that is not cleansed, nor rained on in the day of indignation.’

For the people do not turn to Him who strikes them, Nor do they seek the Lord of hosts.

She has not obeyed His voice, She has not received correction; She has not trusted in the Lord, She has not drawn near to her God.

“ In vain I have chastened your children; They received no correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets Like a destroying lion.

Now in the time of his distress King Ahaz became increasingly unfaithful to the Lord. This is that King Ahaz.

The bellows blow fiercely, The lead is consumed by the fire; The smelter refines in vain, For the wicked are not drawn off.

Moreover all the leaders of the priests and the people transgressed more and more, according to all the abominations of the nations, and defiled the house of the Lord which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place.But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

O Lord, are not Your eyes on the truth? You have stricken them, But they have not grieved; You have consumed them, But they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to return.

In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you, and you were not cleansed, You will not be cleansed of your filthiness anymore, Till I have caused My fury to rest upon you.

Why should you be stricken again? You will revolt more and more. The whole head is sick, And the whole heart faints.

“ As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you!But we will certainly do whatever has gone out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, were well-off, and saw no trouble.But since we stopped burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been consumed by the sword and by famine.”The women also said,“ And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make cakes for her, to worship her, and pour out drink offerings to her without our husbands’ permission?”
