In that day—“ Sing about a fruitful vineyard:

At that time the Lord will sing about his fruitful vineyard. He will say,

In that day,“ A pleasant vineyard, sing of it!

“ In that day, sing about the fruitful vineyard.

On that day sing about a desirable vineyard:

On that day,“ A vineyard of beauty, sing of it!

In that day sing to her,“ A vineyard of red wine!

In that day: A vineyard of wine, sing ye unto it.

On that day sing about a desirable vineyard:

In that day sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine.

In that day, sing to her,“ A pleasant vineyard!

I planted you in the land like a special vine of the very best stock. Why in the world have you turned into something like a wild vine that produces rotten, foul-smelling grapes?

“ Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a fence around it, dug a pit for its winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went on a journey.When the harvest time was near, he sent his slaves to the tenants to collect his portion of the crop.But the tenants seized his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.Again he sent other slaves, more than the first, and they treated them the same way.Finally he sent his son to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and get his inheritance!’So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”They said to him,“ He will utterly destroy those evil men! Then he will lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his portion at the harvest.”Jesus said to them,“ Have you never read in the scriptures:‘ The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?For this reason I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.”When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, because the crowds regarded him as a prophet.

I will sing to my love– a song to my lover about his vineyard. My love had a vineyard on a fertile hill.He built a hedge around it, removed its stones, and planted a vine. He built a tower in the middle of it, and constructed a winepress. He waited for it to produce edible grapes, but it produced sour ones instead.So now, residents of Jerusalem, people of Judah, you decide between me and my vineyard!What more can I do for my vineyard beyond what I have already done? When I waited for it to produce edible grapes, why did it produce sour ones instead?Now I will inform you what I am about to do to my vineyard: I will remove its hedge and turn it into pasture, I will break its wall and allow animals to graze there.I will make it a wasteland; no one will prune its vines or hoe its ground, and thorns and briers will grow there. I will order the clouds not to drop any rain on it.Indeed Israel is the vineyard of the LORD who commands armies, the people of Judah are the cultivated place in which he took delight. He waited for justice, but look what he got– disobedience! He waited for fairness, but look what he got– cries for help!

Then he began to tell the people this parable:“ A man planted a vineyard, leased it to tenant farmers, and went on a journey for a long time.When harvest time came, he sent a slave to the tenants so that they would give him his portion of the crop. However, the tenants beat his slave and sent him away empty- handed.So he sent another slave. They beat this one too, treated him outrageously, and sent him away empty- handed.So he sent still a third. They even wounded this one, and threw him out.Then the owner of the vineyard said,‘ What should I do? I will send my one dear son; perhaps they will respect him.’But when the tenants saw him, they said to one another,‘ This is the heir; let’s kill him so the inheritance will be ours!’So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others.” When the people heard this, they said,“ May this never happen!”But Jesus looked straight at them and said,“ Then what is the meaning of that which is written:‘ The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’?Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.”

You uprooted a vine from Egypt; you drove out nations and transplanted it.You cleared the ground for it; it took root, and filled the land.The mountains were covered by its shadow, the highest cedars by its branches.Its branches reached the Mediterranean Sea, and its shoots the Euphrates River.Why did you break down its walls, so that all who pass by pluck its fruit?The wild boars of the forest ruin it; the insects of the field feed on it.O God, invincible warrior, come back! Look down from heaven and take notice! Take care of this vine,the root your right hand planted, the shoot you made to grow!It is burned and cut down. They die because you are displeased with them.May you give support to the one you have chosen, to the one whom you raised up for yourself!Then we will not turn away from you. Revive us and we will pray to you!O LORD God, invincible warrior, restore us! Smile on us! Then we will be delivered!

Then Israel sang this song:“ Spring up, O well, sing to it!
