who sit among the graves and spend their nights keeping secret vigil; who eat the flesh of pigs, and whose pots hold broth of impure meat;

They sit among the graves. They spend their nights talking to the spirits of the dead. They eat the meat of pigs. Their cooking pots hold soup that has‘ unclean’ meat in it.

At night they go out among the graves, worshiping the dead. They eat the flesh of pigs and make stews with other forbidden foods.

And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,Who had[ his] dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any[ man] tame him.And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

And whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.And for an unclean[ person] they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel:And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip[ it] in the water, and sprinkle[ it] upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave:And the clean[ person] shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even.But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he hath defiled the sanctuary of the LORD: the water of separation hath not been sprinkled upon him; he[ is] unclean.

And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it[ is] unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.

Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in[ any] house, but in the tombs.

He that toucheth the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days.
