「『現在，我們的神啊，你是至大、至能、至可畏、守約施慈愛的神；我們的君王、官長、祭司、先知、祖先和你的眾百姓，從亞述諸王的時候直到今日所遭遇的一切苦難，求你不要看為小事。在一切臨到我們的事上，你是公義的，因為你所行的是信實，我們所做的是邪惡。我們的君王、官長、祭司、祖先都不遵守你的律法，不聽從你的誡命和你警戒他們的話。

從我們祖先的日子直到今日，我們的罪惡深重；因我們的罪孽，我們和君王、祭司都交在鄰國諸王的手中，被殺害，擄掠，搶奪，臉上蒙羞，正如今日的景況。

那等人必因所喜愛的聖樹抱愧；你們必因所選擇的園子蒙羞，

沒有聽從你僕人眾先知奉你的名向我們君王、官長、祖先和這地所有百姓所說的話。主啊，你是公義的，但我們猶大人和耶路撒冷的居民，並你所趕到各國的以色列眾人，不論遠近，因為背叛了你，臉上蒙羞，正如今日一樣。耶和華啊，我們和我們的君王、官長、祖先因得罪了你，臉上就都蒙羞。

「從我們幼年以來，那可恥之物吞吃了我們祖先勞碌得來的，就是他們的羊羣、牛羣和他們的兒女。我們在羞恥中躺臥吧！願慚愧將我們遮蓋！因為從我們幼年以來，我們和我們的祖先都得罪了耶和華－我們的神，沒有聽從耶和華－我們神的話。」

那麼，你們現在所看為羞恥的事，當時有甚麼果子呢？那些事的結局就是死。

以色列不是你的笑柄嗎？它難道是在賊中被逮到，使你每逢提到它就搖頭的嗎？

你為何東奔西跑改變你的道路呢？你必因埃及蒙羞，像從前因亞述蒙羞一樣。
