第三天大衛和跟隨的人到了洗革拉，亞瑪力人早已侵犯了南地和洗革拉了。他們擊破了洗革拉，又放火燒城；擄了其中的婦女和所有的人、無論大小，都沒有殺死一人，只是帶着上路走了。大衛和跟隨的人到了那城，只見城已被火燒燬，他們的妻子兒女都被擄了去。大衛和跟隨的人就放聲大哭，直哭到沒力氣哭。大衛的兩個妻子、耶斯列人亞希暖、和那作過迦密人拿八妻子的亞比該、也被擄了去。大衛非常困苦；因為眾民各為自己的兒女而心裏苦惱，都說要拿石頭打死大衛；大衛卻靠着永恆主他的上帝而剛強。大衛對亞希米勒的兒子祭司亞比亞他說：『請將神諭像給我拿過來。』亞比亞他就將神諭像拿過去到大衛面前。大衛就求問永恆主說：『我可以追趕這羣匪幫麼？我追得上追不上呢？』永恆主對他說：『你可以追趕；一定追得上，並且一定搶救得來。』

亞伯蘭聽見他的姪兒被擄了去，就抽出他家裏生養的精練壯丁三百一十八人，直追到但。他和他的奴僕趁夜分隊，攻擊敵人，擊敗了他們，又追到大馬色北邊的何把；將一切財物奪回來，也將他的姪兒羅得、和羅得的財物、以及婦女人口、都奪回來。

亞瑪力人所拿走的財物、大衛全都奪回；他的兩個妻子大衛也搶救回來。無論是小是大、是兒是女、無論是被擄掠的、是敵人拿走的、大衛全都奪回，沒有失落一個。大衛也拿到所有的羊和牛，人把這些趕在原有的牲畜前邊，說：『這是大衛的掠物。』
