The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush,“ Moses, Moses!”“ Here I am,” he answered.“ Do not come closer,” he said.“ Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”Then he continued,“ I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.

“ I have revealed your name to the people you gave me from the world. They were yours, you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.

“ Your name will no longer be Jacob,” he said.“ It will be Israel because you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.”Then Jacob asked him,“ Please tell me your name.” But he answered,“ Why do you ask my name?” And he blessed him there.Jacob then named the place Peniel,“ For I have seen God face to face,” he said,“ yet my life has been spared.”

He protects his flock like a shepherd; he gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them in the fold of his garment. He gently leads those that are nursing.

Let me bring my gift and set it before you.” And he said,“ I will stay until you return.”So Gideon went and prepared a young goat and unleavened bread from a half bushel of flour. He placed the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot. He brought them out and offered them to him under the oak.The angel of God said to him,“ Take the meat with the unleavened bread, put it on this stone, and pour the broth on it.” So he did that.The angel of the LORD extended the tip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the unleavened bread. Fire came up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. Then the angel of the LORD vanished from his sight.When Gideon realized that he was the angel of the LORD, he said,“ Oh no, Lord GOD! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!”But the LORD said to him,“ Peace to you. Don’t be afraid, for you will not die.”So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD Is Peace. It is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites today.On that very night the LORD said to him,“ Take your father’s young bull and a second bull seven years old. Then tear down the altar of Baal that belongs to your father and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.Build a well-constructed altar to the LORD your God on the top of this mound. Take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down.”

Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke about him.

When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked,“ Are you for us or for our enemies?”“ Neither,” he replied.“ I have now come as commander of the LORD’s army.” Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in homage and asked him,“ What does my lord want to say to his servant?”The commander of the LORD’s army said to Joshua,“ Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did that.Now Jericho was strongly fortified because of the Israelites— no one leaving or entering.The LORD said to Joshua,“ Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its best soldiers over to you.

Then he blessed Joseph and said: The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,the angel who has redeemed me from all harm— may he bless these boys. And may they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they grow to be numerous within the land.

Something like a throne with the appearance of lapis lazuli was above the expanse over their heads. On the throne, high above, was someone who looked like a human.From what seemed to be his waist up, I saw a gleam like amber, with what looked like fire enclosing it all around. From what seemed to be his waist down, I also saw what looked like fire. There was a brilliant light all around him.The appearance of the brilliant light all around was like that of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day. This was the appearance of the likeness of the LORD’s glory. When I saw it, I fell facedown and heard a voice speaking.

One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.And being in torment in Hades, he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off, with Lazarus at his side.

When the flame went up from the altar to the sky, the angel of the LORD went up in its flame. When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell facedown on the ground.The angel of the LORD did not appear again to Manoah and his wife. Then Manoah realized that it was the angel of the LORD.“ We’re certainly going to die,” he said to his wife,“ because we have seen God!”But his wife said to him,“ If the LORD had intended to kill us, he wouldn’t have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from us, and he would not have shown us all these things or spoken to us like this.”

When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he departed, and Abraham returned to his place.

They cry out to their mothers,“ Where is the grain and wine?” as they faint like the wounded in the streets of the city, as their life pours out in the arms of their mothers.

I was a skilled craftsman beside him. I was his delight every day, always rejoicing before him.

In the womb he grasped his brother’s heel, and as an adult he wrestled with God.Jacob struggled with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought his favor. He found him at Bethel, and there he spoke with him.The LORD is the God of Armies; the LORD is his name.

One of his disciples, the one Jesus loved, was reclining close beside Jesus.

For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.
