He did not refuse to answer, but he declared:“ I am not the Messiah.”

He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely,“ I am not the Messiah.”

He did not try to hide the truth. He spoke to them openly. He said,“ I am not the Messiah.”

He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed,“ I am not the Christ.”

He came right out and said,“ I am not the Messiah.”

He didn’t deny it but confessed,“ I am not the Messiah.”

And he confessed and did not deny; and this is what he confessed:“ I am not the Christ.”

He was preaching:“ Someone more powerful than I will come after me. I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the strap of His sandals.I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Now the people were waiting expectantly, and all of them were debating in their minds whether John might be the Messiah.John answered them all,“ I baptize you with water, but One is coming who is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to untie the strap of His sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.His winnowing shovel is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and gather the wheat into His barn, but the chaff He will burn up with a fire that never goes out.”

You yourselves can testify that I said,‘ I am not the Messiah, but I’ve been sent ahead of Him.’He who has the bride is the groom. But the groom’s friend, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly at the groom’s voice. So this joy of mine is complete.He must increase, but I must decrease.”The One who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth is earthly and speaks in earthly terms. The One who comes from heaven is above all.He testifies to what He has seen and heard, yet no one accepts His testimony.The one who has accepted His testimony has affirmed that God is true.For God sent Him, and He speaks God’s words, since He gives the Spirit without measure.The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hands.The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who refuses to believe in the Son will not see life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him.

“ I baptize you with water for repentance, but the One who is coming after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to remove His sandals. He Himself will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.His winnowing shovel is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor and gather His wheat into the barn. But the chaff He will burn up with fire that never goes out.”
