Save me from the trouble I’m in. It’s like slippery mud, so don’t let me sink in it. Save me from those who hate me. Save me from the deep water I’m in.Don’t let the floods cover me. Don’t let the deep water swallow me up. Don’t let the grave close its mouth over me.

People treat me as if I were dead. I’m like those who have been killed and are now in the grave. You don’t even remember them anymore. They are cut off from your care. It’s as if you have put me deep down in the grave. It’s as if you have put me in that deep, dark place.Your great anger lies heavy on me. All the waves of your anger have crashed over me.You have taken my closest friends away from me. You have made me sickening to them. I feel trapped and can’t escape.
  • Jonah 1:12-16
“ Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied.“ Then it will become calm. I know it’s my fault that this terrible storm has come on you.”But the men didn’t do what he said. Instead, they did their best to row back to land. But they couldn’t. The sea got even rougher than before. Then they cried out to the Lord. They prayed,“ Please, Lord, don’t let us die for taking this man’s life. After all, he might not be guilty of doing anything wrong. So don’t hold us responsible for killing him. Lord, you always do what you want to.”Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard. And the stormy sea became calm. The men saw what had happened. Then they began to have great respect for the Lord. They offered a sacrifice to him. And they made promises to him.
