John 18:1-19
After Jesus had said these things, He went out with His disciples across the Kidron Valley, where there was a garden, and He and His disciples went into it.Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place, because Jesus often met there with His disciples.So Judas took a company of soldiers and some temple police from the chief priests and the Pharisees and came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.Then Jesus, knowing everything that was about to happen to Him, went out and said to them,“ Who is it you’re looking for?”“ Jesus the Nazarene,” they answered.“ I am He,” Jesus told them. Judas, who betrayed Him, was also standing with them.When He told them,“ I am He,” they stepped back and fell to the ground.Then He asked them again,“ Who is it you’re looking for?”“ Jesus the Nazarene,” they said.“ I told you I am He,” Jesus replied.“ So if you’re looking for Me, let these men go.”This was to fulfill the words He had said:“ I have not lost one of those You have given Me.”Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it, struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his right ear.( The slave’s name was Malchus.)At that, Jesus said to Peter,“ Sheathe your sword! Am I not to drink the cup the Father has given Me?”Then the company of soldiers, the commander, and the Jewish temple police arrested Jesus and tied Him up.First they led Him to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it was advantageous that one man should die for the people.Meanwhile, Simon Peter was following Jesus, as was another disciple. That disciple was an acquaintance of the high priest; so he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard.But Peter remained standing outside by the door. So the other disciple, the one known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the girl who was the doorkeeper and brought Peter in.Then the slave girl who was the doorkeeper said to Peter,“ You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?”“ I am not!” he said.Now the slaves and the temple police had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold. They were standing there warming themselves, and Peter was standing with them, warming himself.The high priest questioned Jesus about His disciples and about His teaching.

Psalms 22:1-21
My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from my deliverance and from my words of groaning?My God, I cry by day, but You do not answer, by night, yet I have no rest.But You are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You rescued them.They cried to You and were set free; they trusted in You and were not disgraced.But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by people.Everyone who sees me mocks me; they sneer and shake their heads:“ He relies on the Lord; let Him rescue him; let the Lord deliver him, since He takes pleasure in him.”You took me from the womb, making me secure while at my mother’s breast.I was given over to You at birth; You have been my God from my mother’s womb.Do not be far from me, because distress is near and there is no one to help.Many bulls surround me; strong ones of Bashan encircle me.They open their mouths against me— lions, mauling and roaring.I am poured out like water, and all my bones are disjointed; my heart is like wax, melting within me.My strength is dried up like baked clay; my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You put me into the dust of death.For dogs have surrounded me; a gang of evildoers has closed in on me; they pierced my hands and my feet.I can count all my bones; people look and stare at me.They divided my garments among themselves, and they cast lots for my clothing.But You, Lord, don’t be far away. My strength, come quickly to help me.Deliver my life from the sword, my only life from the power of these dogs.Save me from the mouth of the lion! You have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen.

Mark 14:1-15
After two days it was the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a treacherous way to arrest and kill Him.“ Not during the festival,” they said,“ or there may be rioting among the people.”While He was in Bethany at the house of Simon who had a serious skin disease, as He was reclining at the table, a woman came with an alabaster jar of pure and expensive fragrant oil of nard. She broke the jar and poured it on His head.But some were expressing indignation to one another:“ Why has this fragrant oil been wasted?For this oil might have been sold for more than 300 denarii and given to the poor.” And they began to scold her.Then Jesus said,“ Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a noble thing for Me.You always have the poor with you, and you can do what is good for them whenever you want, but you do not always have Me.She has done what she could; she has anointed My body in advance for burial.I assure you: Wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.”Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to hand Him over to them.And when they heard this, they were glad and promised to give him silver. So he started looking for a good opportunity to betray Him.On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrifice the Passover lamb, His disciples asked Him,“ Where do You want us to go and prepare the Passover so You may eat it?”So He sent two of His disciples and told them,“ Go into the city, and a man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him.Wherever he enters, tell the owner of the house,‘ The Teacher says,“ Where is the guest room for Me to eat the Passover with My disciples?”’He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.”
