It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor, but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.

It is a sin to hate your neighbor. But blessed is the person who is kind to those in need.

Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor.

The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever shows kindness to the poor will be happy.

One who despises his neighbor sins, But one who is gracious to the poor is blessed.

He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth; But he that hath pity on the poor, happy is he.

The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever shows kindness to the poor will be happy.

He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy[ is] he.

The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever is kind to the needy is blessed.

He who despises his neighbor sins, but he who has pity on the poor is blessed.

Those who mock the poor insult their Maker; those who rejoice at the misfortune of others will be punished.

Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to poverty will be cursed.

If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord— and he will repay you!

It is foolish to belittle one’s neighbor; a sensible person keeps quiet.

Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but helping the poor honors him.

For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help.

“ If I have been unfair to my male or female servants when they brought their complaints to me,how could I face God? What could I say when he questioned me?For God created both me and my servants. He created us both in the womb.

Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Look up into the sky, and see the clouds high above you.If you sin, how does that affect God? Even if you sin again and again, what effect will it have on him?

Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.

Doing wrong leads to disgrace, and scandalous behavior brings contempt.

And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus:‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion— how can God’s love be in that person?Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence.And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him.

Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.“ Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.Then when you call, the Lord will answer.‘ Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.“ Remove the heavy yoke of oppression. Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well watered garden, like an ever flowing spring.Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.

They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor.

“‘ King Nebuchadnezzar, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Break from your wicked past and be merciful to the poor. Perhaps then you will continue to prosper.’

Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.

What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,and you say,“ Good bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”— but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

Send your grain across the seas, and in time, profits will flow back to you.But divide your investments among many places, for you do not know what risks might lie ahead.

“ Then the King will say to those on his right,‘ Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’“ Then these righteous ones will reply,‘ Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’“ And the King will say,‘ I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’“ Then the King will turn to those on the left and say,‘ Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons.For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink.I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t give me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’“ Then they will reply,‘ Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’“ And he will answer,‘ I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’“ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.”

Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.The Lord protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies.

Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn’t God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren’t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love him?But you dishonor the poor! Isn’t it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court?

Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back.Do to others as you would like them to do to you.“ If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them!And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much!And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, why should you get credit? Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return.“ Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.

Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else:
