好生氣的人挑起爭端，暴怒的人多多犯錯。

紛爭掀起，如同缺口的水；因此，爭端尚未爆發就當制止。

若是可行，總要盡力與眾人和睦。各位親愛的，不要自己伸冤，寧可給主的憤怒留地步，因為經上記着：「主說：『伸冤在我，我必報應。』」不但如此，「你的仇敵若餓了，就給他吃；若渴了，就給他喝。因為你這樣做，就是把炭火堆在他的頭上。」不要被惡所勝，反要以善勝惡。

愚昧人的嘴唇挑起爭端，一開口就招鞭打。

不要冒失出去與人爭訟，免得你的鄰舍羞辱你，最後你就不知怎麼做。要與鄰舍爭辯你的案情，不可洩漏他人的隱密，

主的僕人不可爭辯，只要溫和待人，善於教導，恆心忍耐，

但是我告訴你們：不要與惡人作對。有人打你的右臉，連另一邊也轉過去由他打。有人想要告你，要拿你的裏衣，連外衣也由他拿去。有人強迫你走一里路，你就跟他走二里。

你們竟然有弟兄去告弟兄，而且告到不信主的人面前。你們彼此告狀，這已經是你們的大錯了。為甚麼不情願受冤屈呢？為甚麼不情願吃虧呢？你們反倒去冤枉人，虧負人，況且所冤枉所虧負的就是弟兄。
