彼加凌辱於君王、使其流離於野、無路可循兮、

民牧則黜其位、流亡於野、在人跡不至之所兮、

主乃使君王極被藐視、在無路之曠野、流徙飄蕩、

憎彼侯王。黜之遐荒。遐荒無路。四顧茫茫。寖削寖弱。淪胥以亡。

O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom and majesty, glory and honor.And because of the majesty that He gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.Then the fingers of the hand were sent from Him, and this writing was written.“ And this is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.This is the interpretation of each word. MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it;TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting;PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.”Then Belshazzar gave the command, and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.That very night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain.

Then Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went down into the ground; for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

In the same hour the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosened and his knees knocked against each other.

So they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.Therefore they came back and told him. And he said,“ This is the word of the Lord, which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying,‘ On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel;and the corpse of Jezebel shall be as refuse on the surface of the field, in the plot at Jezreel, so that they shall not say,“ Here lies Jezebel.”’”

Then Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.And Adoni-Bezek said,“ Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me.” Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

“ He found him in a desert land And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.

So it was, after they had carried it away, that the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction; and He struck the men of the city, both small and great, and tumors broke out on them.

That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.

And the Lord did so. Thick swarms of flies came into the house of Pharaoh, into his servants’ houses, and into all the land of Egypt. The land was corrupted because of the swarms of flies.

Who has taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, Whose merchants are princes, Whose traders are the honorable of the earth?The Lord of hosts has purposed it, To bring to dishonor the pride of all glory, To bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.
