以賽亞指着以色列人喊着說：「以色列人雖多如海沙，得救的不過是剩下的餘數；因為主要在世上施行他的話，叫他的話都成全，速速地完結。」又如以賽亞先前說過：若不是萬軍之主給我們存留餘種，我們早已像所多瑪、蛾摩拉的樣子了。

「你們看見耶路撒冷被兵圍困，就可知道它成荒場的日子近了。那時，在猶太的應當逃到山上；在城裏的應當出來；在鄉下的不要進城；因為這是報應的日子，使經上所寫的都得應驗。當那些日子，懷孕的和奶孩子的有禍了！因為將有大災難降在這地方，也有震怒臨到這百姓。他們要倒在刀下，又被擄到各國去。耶路撒冷要被外邦人踐踏，直到外邦人的日期滿了。」

他們的嬰孩必在他們眼前摔碎；他們的房屋必被搶奪；他們的妻子必被玷污。

當那些日子，懷孕的和奶孩子的有禍了。你們應當祈求，叫你們逃走的時候，不遇見冬天或是安息日。因為那時必有大災難，從世界的起頭直到如今，沒有這樣的災難，後來也必沒有。若不減少那日子，凡有血氣的總沒有一個得救的；只是為選民，那日子必減少了。

「你們看見那行毀壞可憎的，站在不當站的地方（讀這經的人須要會意）。那時，在猶太的，應當逃到山上；

因為日子將到，你的仇敵必築起土壘，周圍環繞你，四面困住你，並要掃滅你和你裏頭的兒女，連一塊石頭也不留在石頭上，因你不知道眷顧你的時候。」

你若謹守耶和華－你神的誡命，遵行他的道，他必照着向你所起的誓立你作為自己的聖民。天下萬民見你歸在耶和華的名下，就要懼怕你。你在耶和華向你列祖起誓應許賜你的地上，他必使你身所生的，牲畜所下的，地所產的，都綽綽有餘。耶和華必為你開天上的府庫，按時降雨在你的地上。在你手裏所辦的一切事上賜福與你。你必借給許多國民，卻不致向他們借貸。你若聽從耶和華－你神的誡命，就是我今日所吩咐你的，謹守遵行，不偏左右，也不隨從事奉別神，耶和華就必使你作首不作尾，但居上不居下。」

「你們看見先知但以理所說的『那行毀壞可憎的』站在聖地（讀這經的人須要會意）。那時，在猶太的，應當逃到山上；

我要聚集萬民，帶他們下到約沙法谷，在那裏施行審判；因為他們將我的百姓，就是我的產業以色列，分散在列國中，又分取我的地土，

王就大怒，發兵除滅那些兇手，燒毀他們的城。

看哪，這都寫在我面前。我必不靜默，必施行報應，必將你們的罪孽和你們列祖的罪孽，就是在山上燒香，在岡上褻瀆我的罪孽，一同報應在他們後人懷中，我先要把他們所行的量給他們；這是耶和華說的。

第四國，必堅壯如鐵，鐵能打碎剋制百物，又能壓碎一切，那國也必打碎壓制列國。你既見像的腳和腳指頭，一半是窰匠的泥，一半是鐵，那國將來也必分開。你既見鐵與泥攙雜，那國也必有鐵的力量。那腳指頭，既是半鐵半泥，那國也必半強半弱。你既見鐵與泥攙雜，那國民也必與各種人攙雜，卻不能彼此相合，正如鐵與泥不能相合一樣。

所以耶和華如此說：『你的妻子必在城中作妓女；你的兒女必倒在刀下。你的地必有人用繩子量了分取；你自己必死在污穢之地。以色列民定被擄去離開本地。』」

敵人在錫安玷污婦人，在猶大的城邑玷污處女。他們吊起首領的手，也不尊敬老人的面。

他必豎立大旗，招遠方的國民，發嘶聲叫他們從地極而來；看哪，他們必急速奔來。

「耶路撒冷啊，耶路撒冷啊，你常殺害先知，又用石頭打死那奉差遣到你這裏來的人。我多次願意聚集你的兒女，好像母雞把小雞聚集在翅膀底下，只是你們不願意。看哪，你們的家成為荒場留給你們。

敵人伸手，奪取她的美物；她眼見外邦人進入她的聖所－論這外邦人，你曾吩咐不可入你的會中。

但那在上的耶路撒冷是自主的，她是我們的母。因為經上記着：不懷孕、不生養的，你要歡樂；未曾經過產難的，你要高聲歡呼；因為沒有丈夫的，比有丈夫的兒女更多。

耶和華說：這全地的人，三分之二必剪除而死，三分之一仍必存留。我要使這三分之一經火，熬煉他們，如熬煉銀子；試煉他們，如試煉金子。他們必求告我的名，我必應允他們。我要說：這是我的子民。他們也要說：耶和華是我們的神。

你們當因我所造的永遠歡喜快樂；因我造耶路撒冷為人所喜，造其中的居民為人所樂。

巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒率領他的全軍和地上屬他的各國各邦，攻打耶路撒冷和屬耶路撒冷所有的城邑。那時，耶和華的話臨到耶利米說：

當那些日子，凱撒奧古斯都有旨意下來，叫天下人民都報名上冊。

因為在那些日子必有災難，自從神創造萬物直到如今，並沒有這樣的災難，後來也必沒有。
